A Calmer Attitude for Traemarr Seattle 13th October 2009 Show rider, Samantha Osborne, is now looking forward to the next show season, with her horse, Traemarr Seattle, or ‘Frazier’, as he is known at home, thanks to Mollichaff Calmer.
In December 2008, Samantha purchased the 15.2hh bay gelding, Frazier, as a four-year-old and found he was very insecure and defensive, with a tendency to spook and become easily distracted. After hearing good reports about Mollichaff Calmer, a complete fibre feed for horses and ponies prone to nervousness or excitement, Samantha decided to give it a go.
Said Samantha: “Three weeks after I purchased him, I put Frazier onto Mollichaff Calmer, which he loves as it is very palatable, and at the same time I increased his workload. I wanted to be able to keep on top of his attitude but at the same time I needed to build up his muscle, topline and get him to put on a little weight.”
The results speak for themselves. Frazier’s attitude towards both Samantha and his work changed dramatically and he put on condition and began to get on with his job. By May 2009, the pair ventured out to their first local show where they not only won their class but took the championship as well. They won again at their second show and qualified for the Royal London and Equifest championships as a large hack. Frazier went on to be placed in the top three in almost all his classes as the Royal London.
Said Samantha: “I chose to feed Mollichaff Calmer because it is a complete feed rather than an ‘instant calmer’. My feed bills have now been significantly reduced as I no longer have to buy different bags of feed and supplements as everything Frazier needs is in Mollichaff Calmer – I just supplement it with plenty of good quality forage.”
Mollichaff Calmer is a highly palatable, complete fibre feed containing a balanced blend of fibre pellets, oat straw, dried grass, herbs, soya oil, vitamins, minerals, limestone and trace elements as well as a carefully formulated combination of camomile, lemon balm and mint.
It supplies elevated levels of magnesium as a diet deficient in magnesium can result in increased muscle contraction, making the horse less able to relax and more likely to become excitable or ‘fizzy’.
Low in starch and sugar, Mollichaff Calmer provides limited controlled energy from high quality, digestible fibre and oil-based ingredients, and is safe to feed to laminitics.
“I am certain that without Mollichaff Calmer, Frazier would not have coped so well in his first championships, being in the spotlight and main arenas on a day when the windy weather was particularly bad,” said Samantha.
“I will be keeping him on Mollichaff Calmer as he really is a different horse now. He is such a friendly character and is now eager to learn and please. He is always bright-eyed and very talkative on the yard where he is stabled, and looks fantastic.”
Samantha has started doing some dressage, indoor jumping and cross-country with Frazier, who is ¾ Thoroughbred / ¼ Arab, to vary his work and keep him interested, and is hoping to qualify him for the National Championships and Cherif Championships as well as HOYS next year.
